Wednesday Wisdom: High Priority Actions Vs. Low Priority Distractions

A great friend once recommended a book by Dr. John Demartini and I have been following his teachings ever since. Dr. Demartini often talks about how he doesn’t possess a cell phone, doesn’t have a personal social media account, and you can’t reach him by email. He hired assistants and delegated the tasks that don’t appeal to his highest values, so he can focus on high priority actions.

It is certainly an interesting thought and one that strikes a chord, especially, in this accelerated digital age where distractions are aplenty. I have applied some of those ideas to my personal and professional life and while I do not foresee myself dropping my cellphone, I have taken less drastic change measures that have significantly impacted my happiness and productivity:

  • When working on an important (high priority) task, I ignore non-task related phone calls or messages.

  • I use a planner (Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt) to plan every week, on Sundays, focusing on only 3 big weekly tasks that will further my mission.

  • I delegated house chores (cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, etc.) to third party vendors. My time is valuable and spending it on cleaning the kitchen sink will not further my life’s mission.

Apply those ideas to your day. What tasks would you outsource? What tasks would you prioritize? Set your goals, plan, and go from there.

Have a great week and be safe,
